CROP OVER FESTIVAL BEGINS
The highlight of the Annual Cultural Calendar is the Crop Over Festival. This Festival originated on the sugar plantation as a means of celebrating the end of the sugar cane harvest season. The Crop Over Festival was reviewed in 1974 after a period of depression and involves community participation in fairs, concerts, cart parades and other cultural activities with an integral component being the Calypso Competition and crowning of the Calypso Monarch.
